Your child’s smile is precious and deserves the most attentive and gentle dental care available. Our friendly and fun-loving team at Clayton Smiles cherishes each of our little patients, and we always strive to make dental visits a fun and comfortable experience for kids and teens.
Children’s dentistry involves more than simply caring for your child’s teeth and gums. For us, caring for children’s dental health is also about creating relationships built on trust and respect. We want to be your family’s dental home for life, and we are grateful for the opportunity to guide young patients through every step of their dental journey.
At each dental visit, we aim to empower your child about their dental hygiene routine and teach them new techniques to care for their teeth and gums. We also monitor your child’s oral development, as they experience many changes during childhood and early adolescence.
Our ultimate goal is to provide each child comprehensive dental care to understand the importance of excellent oral health and enjoy healthy, beautiful smiles throughout their lives.
Preventive Dentistry Protects Healthy Smiles
The idea behind preventive dentistry is that being proactive with six-month exams and cleanings helps you avoid conditions like cavities and gum disease and the damage they do to your teeth and gums. Prevention is the easiest way to spare yourself dental pain, complex treatment, and high dental costs.
Dental Exams with a General Dentist
When we see you every six months, we always have a current snapshot of your oral health. During your dental exam, Dr. Kate and Dr. Adam look for symptoms of gingivitis, such as swollen or bleeding gums and check your teeth for cavities.
They also check existing dental work, like crowns and fillings, to ensure they are in good shape and perform an oral cancer screening.
If you’re a new patient or don’t have current x-rays, your exam may also include taking updated images. Dental x-rays allow our dentist to see inside and between your teeth to check for cavities. If they spot a cavity or gingivitis, they will explain their findings and arrange the appropriate treatment.
Professional Teeth Cleanings
According to the American Dental Association, everyone—including children—should brush at least twice a day and floss once. While at-home oral hygiene is essential, it isn’t a substitute for professional teeth cleanings with a hygienist.
Maintaining healthy teeth and gums is a team effort; you do your part with oral hygiene at home, and your dental hygienist steps in every six months and removes the plaque and tartar buildup that your brush and floss can’t.

Intraoral Cameras
Your oral health is so closely linked to your general health and well-being that we think it’s crucial for you to understand your dental condition. At Clayton Smiles, we use intraoral cameras because they show you exactly what your dentist sees during a dental examination.
An intraoral camera is a small device that transmits real-time images to your chairside monitor. You’ll see a magnified view of each tooth and can follow along as your dentist points out problem areas and explains why they recommend treatment.
Your intraoral images also assist us in planning treatment and become a part of your digital patient record and can be easily shared with your insurance company or specialists.
